Unlike Missingno, Mew is a real Pokémon. It is the Pokémon that was used to create Mewtwo.

Mew is probably the rarest Pokémon in the world. Many people have searched for it, but never found it. Many rumours have developed, but most of them are wrong.

Many people may tell you how to catch Mew, but don't trust them.
You can not catch Mew like any other Pokémon!
Mew is a special Pokémon that can't be caught in Red, Blue, Yellow, Gold or Silver, and that's a fact.

Who is Mew?

Mew is the mysterious Pokémon with the number 151. Its type is Psychic and it looks like a sweet little cat with a very long tail and big blue eyes.
Its DNA was used to create one of the mightiest Pokémon of all, Mewtwo. Mew and Mewtwo where the main characters in the first Pokémon film, where they fought a great battle.

Catch Mew

There are ways of getting Mew, but not many.

1. You can trade him from a friend who has already got him.
2. You can catch him by cheating with a Game Shark.
3. You can get him on a download event from Nintendo.
4. I think you can catch him in Pokémon Crystal.

Different Spellings

The real spelling is Mew, but you might also find the spellings Myu and Myuu in the internet and unofficial magazines.

Rumours

I thought I'd list a few rumours about Mew, just for fun.

Rumour 1

1. Don't set foot on the S.S. Anne, or you'll have no chance of catching Mew, and will have to restart your game if you want to.
2. Find a friend who has got Red or Blue and let him give you a Pokémon with Surf and one with Strength.
3. Go to Vermillion City.
4. Jump into the water next to the S.S. Anne and surf to the island on the right side of the ship.
5. On this island you will find a big stone (funny, I only found a car). Use your Pokémon with strenght to move it.
6. Under it you will find a Pokémon or a PokéBall.
7. Walk towards the icon and The battle with Mew can beginn.

(Ha ha, very funny. You won't even find a Rattata around there.)

Rumour 2

1. After the S.S. Anne has left, play for a hundred hours and she will come back.
2. Go onto the ship.
3. You will find a trainer who will give you a Mew for a Nidoking at lv.100.

(Rubbish, there is no trader and no Mew.)

Rumour 3

You can catch Mew in the yellow version by going into the long grass above the Day Care Center.
Walk around there for a long time and you will eventually find Mew.

(That is one of the best ways to waste your time, but you still won't get Mew.)

Rumour 4

1. Catch a Magikarp on lv.5 and give it the nickname "Mew"
2. Give it to the man in the Day Care Center.
3. Leave Magikarp there until it is at exactly lv.49 and pick it up again.
4. Give it a Rare Candy and it will evolve into Mew.

(That, is the most sick rumour I've ever heard. Mew does not evolve from Magikarp, and it is a waste of time, money and Rare Candy.)

Rumour 5

1. Restart your game.
2. Get any six Pokémon.
3. Go to Bill's house and say no when he asks you for help.
4. Trade a friend for a Pokémon with cut.
5. Beat everything in the game until you get to Victory Road.
6. Go back to Bill, say yes, you will help and he will give you Mew.

(Well I've never tried this cheat, but I'm very, very sure that Bill won't give you Mew.)

Rumour 6

1. Catch Nidoran(m) in the Safari Zone.
2. Train it to Lv.50 and it will evolve to Mewtwo.
3. keep training him to Lv.100 and he will evolve to Mew.
Note: Nidoran mustn't evolve to Nidorino.

(I don't think all that training would do you good, it'll probably just drive you crazy.)

Rumour 7

1. Restart the game and play normal until where you get Old Amber.
2. Say no to the man and he will give you a special fossil.
3. It turns into Mew and runs away. Mew is now in the Power Plant, on the spot that Zapdos used to be.

(Well, you can try, but I think you'll still only find Zapdos.)

Rumour 8

1. Go to where Mewtwo was and play the Pokéflute 100 times.
2. Mew will apear, use two Master Balls to to catch him.

(Well for all I care you can play that flute 800 times, I still don't believe that you'll get Mew this way.)

Rumour 9

1. Trade for a Pokémon with Cut.
2. Don't go on the S.S. Anne.
3. Beat the entire game and get all 150 Pokémon.
4. Go to the Pokémon Center in the league and equip a Pokémon with Strength and Surf.
5. Go to S.S. Anne, don't get on the ship.
6. Surf to the truck and use Strength to move it.
7. You'll find a Pokémon with Mew.

(Why? Why do I bother? You can't move the truck!!)

Rumour 10

(This is a bit like cheat 4)

1. Buy the Magikarp.
2. Take it to the Day Care Center and leave it until it's lv.25.
3. Pick it up and give it in again until it's lv.50.
4. Get it to lv.51.
5. Go to Pokémon Center, check its stats and it'll be Mew.

(Who would be stupid enough to think of things like that?)

Rumour 11

1. Don't get S.S. Anne ticket.
2. When you've been to Cinnabar, fly back to Cerulean.
3. Leave when Bill walks into the teleporter.
4. Fly to Cinnabar and Surf on the East coast.
5. You'll find Mew.

(I don't know, some people...)

Rumour 12

1. Go to the Unknown Dungeon.
2. Surf around the water near Mewtwo, using the item finder.
3. You should find a Mist Stone.
4. If you wait to long it may get destroyed, as it is under water.
5. Give the Mist Stone to Mewtwo and it'll evolve to Mew.

(This is supposed to take up to 20 days or more. I've heard a lot about this Mist Stone and i don't know what to say about this, wastes a lot of time and batteries.)

Rumour 13

1. See all 150 Pokémon.
2. Go to where Eevee'S Pokéball was.
3. There will be one there now containing Mew.

(This just sounds to easy.)

Rumour 14

1. Get a lv.49 Pikachu.
2. Give it to the Day Care man.
3. Get it back on lv.50.
4. The man will say Pikachu ran away and will give you Mew.

(Some people say this works, but I don't think so. Anyway, Mew seems to have a lot of pre-evolved forms.
